Italian Perfection

January 26th, 2010

it’s rare we find a new place in SD that has both amazing food, delicious ambiance, and attention to design detail such as this place. its only been open about a month, but is hands down the best Italian food we have had in a long time. a lot of what makes Italian food so good is what i like to call the “purity and piety” … the ingredients are of the highest quality and the way it is prepared is simple yet deliberate. meaning rather than put 10 things in a particular dish, like we might in the US, italians usually atone to the “less is more” concept. you can taste the basil, olive oil, balsamic …. and the REAL mozzarella cheese.

send me, matt@djhere.com an email subject “tell me” and we’ll let you in on SD newest secret spot.

good design speaks to the soul …

October 22nd, 2009

as the time passes design blows in like the wind and leaves as quickly as it arrives. it seemed in the early part of this century design took a back seat to things like, greed, speed, and especially bling … whatever the fuck that was?!

however forward seeing companies like Apple decided form was indeed as important as function. like the tides of the ocean it seems to be high tide in the design world as of late. people FINALLY care what things feel and LOOK like. and i don’t mean, what’s hot now, good design truly does speak to the soul and transcends time itself. meaning, good design endures.

so in your day as you use items, look at images, ask yourself did “they” go that extra mile to foster good design? and lastly, take moment to check out these links: apple / microsoft, coke / pepsi, Banksy / Shepard Fairy, scott hansen (BELOW)- one of this authors favorites / james white (ABOVE) … both amazing who have influenced many designers … :)

the love doctor is in …

October 12th, 2009

most people are afraid of “toys”. thankfully some are not … well that’s what my friend that lives in canada told me. another fun fact is that you can go in to Doctor Loves on Garnet under the guise of “buying a halloween costume”, as they really do have a great selection of both PG and rated R costumes. while you are there you can get yourself a little treat on the side … no one will be the wiser.

where the sandwich ends …

October 6th, 2009

“WE FOUND WHERE THE RAINBOW ENDS, COME ON IN FOR A FREE SMILE.” & “bon vivant” are some of the many crazy rantings from the new edition to a fledgling Shangr-La that is forming in one of the most unlikely of places … Mission Beach. we at DJhere have been prognosticating for sometime now about the renaissance taking place in Pacific, and Mission Beach.

gay sailors?

gay sailors?

we believe all the the bread is made fresh in house, our favorite – the Jalapeno Cheese Bread. you can build your own sammy or get one of their speicals, like the Rubicon or this authors favorite the Meatball – awkward note: they have some mighty tasty balls. apparently making bomb ass sandwiches is there sweet spot, but making websites isn’t (theirs is down), so for now here is the Yelp page on them (or Facebook).

so between Sneak Joint, Mono Cafe, & now Rubicon Deli all w/ in a stones through from each other, there is a cool “beach bourgie ghetto-Riviera” springing up in the heart of what used to be … a shit hole. its so awesome, we moved one of our offices down there. see ya’ round …

fashion adventures

September 21st, 2009

as much as i want to write about this dress and the googley eyed gardner i won’t … but one word: awesome!

awesome

awesome

fashion, like the economy,  has kind of ran out of gas for the moment … and i think thats a good thing. the staples are still there, Prada, Hermes, Gucci, etc. but people are taking things into there own hands. meaning fashion has gotten off at the rest stop to drink a beer, pick some flowers, or get weird in the bathroom. my point is high fashion has collided with indie and biker has “rear-ended” metro … add the always fun co-pilot of do-it-yourself, and you have one hell of a road trip.

basically, people more and more are creating their own styles. both active like making a day out of thrift shopping and nordstroms rack to find the perfect ensemble for a night out that is both fun, funny, and creative, yet not afraid to be a little custom-y. and interactive, like outfits that leave the beholder a little something fun behind, such as some adhesive googley eyes on another unsuspecting outfit, glitter, or maybe a headband, scarf, or a bartenders fedora.

taking fashion into your own hands is less about being serious and more about having fun. maybe there is a silver lining to this shit economy – people just don’t give an F about the labels and are picking up metaphorical hitchhikers on their fashion adventures.

hard rock | 207 & float

September 17th, 2009

it’s taken a long time for san diego to grow up. but as with life, it takes “hard” lessons to make a person, least of which a CITY, understand what the world has to offer.  well offering some “hard” (but fun) lessons for a sometimes “hard headed” community, the HARD ROCK deserves a tie for fathers day, slippers on sundays and a big home grown “thank you” from the citizens of san diego.

from acts like Kasade, the Villians, or Sharam from Deep Dish or major Hollywood celebs, the Hard Rock has hit it out of the Ball Park, past the Coronado Bridge and out in to the stratosphere somewhere … all year long. showing this hard convinced city (second largest in the state (& 8th in the nation) that its time we stand up and take our seat at the national arts, clubing and entrainment table.

as many of you know, this is Hard Rocks second time up to bat, and w/ slugger Andy Hercsh, brain child of the Hard Rock in Vegas we are set for another year of world renowned dj line ups, pin ups, and a electro vibes.

this friday night DJ Solarz & Eric Cubeechee …

hells yeah

La Riots

August 31st, 2009

a few years ago a friend of mine mockingly said, in response to dancing to music she liked in a club, “dance!? what is an apropreate way for a 25 year old girl to DANCE?!”. it really bothered me and i wasn’t sure why for some time. then i realized that in the days of DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Oakenfold, or Mark Farina dancing was why you were there. so in some subconscience way, i must of have known at that moment, we were entering an era of … well, what turned out to be  all things cheese, fake, bottle service only, bad music, hummers, and what could only be called the “era of the douche-bag”.

… how far we’ve come … dare i say, full circle. clubs like Voyeur and  dj groups like “La Riots” have brought our asses back to the dirty dance floor … in an albeit much more cool, chic, and sexy environment. don’t miss Sunday September 6th (labor day weekend) as the wholy trinity of club, promoter, and dj’s come together for one amazing night of bad ass, take no prisioners, electro house

| VOYEUR | DJHERE | LA RIOTS |

grab a molotov cocktail (the kind you drink) and get our  inappropriate ass on the dance floor.

DJ duo Jo’B and Daniel Ledisko – La Riots - Music & Info on La Riots
